The Process
We were presented an initial idea of what this UX Design prototype project has to aim for, which was to create something incentivising for students to attend university events and interact with faculty more and possibly make places like course reps, and school president positions more competitive, rather than having only one or two candidates. This would also possibly push for better quality, a fair amount of students hide from these positions due to a lack of incentive for the amount of volunteering work being taken on in positions like course rep.
The initial idea was built around a prize draw where the top prize was the end of the year draw. We stripped down the whole question as to what incentivises students, and after some research, we concluded that it’s food, drinks, and regularly claimable prizes.
Unlike the initial idea, we shied away from the conventional “reward scheme app that you will use only once every few weeks” to something that would keep the students more on their toes and interested in what the university has in store for them for their free time.
The end goal with the current prototype we have created is to make a platform for students to find and join university-led events, follow their progression in interacting with faculty, redeeming small rewards for their time spent volunteering, compete with other students, socialise and find social events set up by other students. All this combined would give students a more centralised platform to be on, which would have been made by the university and not a third party.
